Air fryers made the homemade version easier by crisping a breadcrumb coating with less oil than a skillet or deep fryer. The important rule is still old-fashioned food safety: poultry should be checked with a thermometer and cooked to 165 degrees F.

Ingredients

1 pound chicken tenderloins
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 large eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cups panko bread crumbs
Cooking spray or oil mister
Honey mustard, ranch, or barbecue sauce, for serving

Directions

Heat air fryer to 380 degrees F.
Pat chicken dry.
Mix flour with salt, paprika, garlic powder, and pepper.
Dredge chicken in seasoned flour, dip in egg, then press into panko.
Mist the basket with oil and arrange tenders in a single layer.
Mist tops lightly and air fry 8 to 11 minutes, turning halfway through.
Cook until the thickest tender reaches 165 degrees F on a food thermometer.
Rest 2 minutes and serve with dipping sauce.
