Caramel Malt comes from the soda-fountain and malt-shop side of American food history. Butterscotch/caramel malt-shop flavor. Counters like those made cold drinks social: a place for dates, uniforms, jukeboxes, lunch breaks, and one more cherry on top. This version keeps the spirit generous and easy to make at home.

Ingredients

3 scoops vanilla or matching-flavor ice cream
3/4 cup cold milk
2 tablespoons malted milk powder
2 tablespoons syrup, fruit, nut butter, or mix-ins
Whipped cream and a cherry, optional

Chill a milkshake glass.
